ADHD IN ADULTHOOD

Recognizing and understanding ADHD

Many adults and young adults have been experiencing inner restlessness, concentration problems, chaotic organization, or emotional roller coasters for years – without realizing that ADHD could be the underlying cause. Women, in particular, are often diagnosed late because they are more likely to be perceived as dreamy, absent-minded, or "too sensitive" than "hyperactive."

Perhaps you recognize yourself in procrastination, unfinished projects, self-doubt, or the feeling of constantly being "different".

If you suspect you might have ADHD, a thorough diagnosis can be very relieving – and the first step towards greater self-understanding, suitable strategies and further treatment.

As a licensed psychotherapist, I offer structured ADHD diagnostics for adults (including a detailed medical history, standardized questionnaires, and differential diagnostic assessment). For physical examinations, medical evaluations, and any necessary medication, I refer patients to cooperating specialists.

In addition to diagnostics, I support you with therapeutic and coaching guidance – for example, in better structuring your everyday life, working with your resources, and developing kinder inner stories about yourself.

PROCESS

This is how the ADHD diagnosis process works for me.

The exact procedure may vary slightly depending on the situation; typically it looks like this:

1

Initial consultation & medical history

90 minutes. We'll discuss your current situation, symptoms, and your history: school, work, relationships, and health issues. You bring what you already know or suspect; I'll ask structured questions and together we'll look at typical ADHD patterns in adults.

2

Questionnaires & Differential Diagnosis

You will receive selected, scientifically sound questionnaires and screening tools, which we will evaluate together. I will also consider other possible explanations (e.g., depression, anxiety, exhaustion) so that we don't prematurely label everything as "ADHD".

3

Evaluation & results discussion

In a detailed consultation, we will review the results together. You will receive a clear assessment of the evidence for and against ADHD and what the next steps should be. If desired, you will receive a summary report to support a professional evaluation.

4

Further support

If you wish, I can then support you therapeutically and through coaching – for example, with structuring your daily life, priorities, dealing with emotions, self-esteem, relationships, or professional decisions.

WHY I UNDERSTAND ADHD

My own ADHD diagnosis came late

A major turning point in my life was my own ADHD diagnosis as an adult at the age of 52. Suddenly, many old patterns made sense: this constant "too sensitive, too much, too colorful, too different".

Instead of simply being "somehow wrong", my experience was given a name, and with it new possibilities to treat myself more lovingly and to structure my everyday life differently.

This experience directly informs my work: I know what it feels like to ask yourself for years, "What's wrong with me?" and how liberating it can be to finally understand yourself.
